"A portrait of my loves once a week, every week in 2014"

Ruby::  She came out with strings clipped in her hair and called herself "Lady Gaga". I'm not sure where she came up with this from!
Jenson::  Just Jenson
Mila::  Caught in a moment
Johnny::  This is his "I am Right" face.

These beautiful portraits really captured my attention last week.

 "A portrait of my loves once a week, every week in 2014"

Ruby::  Playing around with her "Funny Face!" for the camera.
Jenson::  Cap and sunnies.  Jenson staples.
Mila::  Bubble chasing at around 8pm in the middle of a heatwave.
Johnny::  Sometimes he may need a gentle nudge when there are things to be done.  But what I really admire about him is when he has his mind set on a particular project, there is no stopping him until it is fully completed.  The project at hand now is another phase of landscaping.

One thing I am learning as the years pass me by, is that life has a way of presenting things when the time is right.  I learned a long time ago not to make plans.  Sure, have goals.  But what is that saying about making plans and God laughs?

I'd been thinking of another carrying out a different photography project, after successfully completing The 52 Project last year.  And while I have other projects in the pipeline and other idea's in my head, the timing is not quite right for them just yet.  If there is anything else I have learned  it is that putting too much pressure on myself to achieve a long list of things, and to have it done now, is not a healthy idea.

When Tahnee came to me with the idea of a collaboration, I did not need persuading.  The project was right, the timing was right, and the thought process was too easy.

So today, along with Tahnee, we are proud to launch A Year Of Motherhood.  A 365 collaboration and celebration of whatever comes our way as Mothers in 2014.

We hope you enjoy the journey.

January 2014.

A busy and fun filled day with special friends.  I hardly picked up the camera.  In fact only eight of these images were taken by me.  Photo 3 and 10 taken by my sister.

"A portrait of my loves, once a week, every week in 2014"

Ruby::  With age has come patience.  She was determined and patient do to her own hair, just as her Aunty had done.
Jenson::  Conversations with his sister.  I see an older boy here.
Mila::  Someone forgot her knickers today.  This is a battle not worth getting into this week.
Johnny::  A quiet afternoon.  Dad's do this so much better than Mum's.

A unintentional triptych this week.

I have also decided to include my husband in this years project.  I don't have enough photo's of myself with my parents.  Or even enough photo's of my parents when I was growing up.  Can you have enough?  The photo's I do have, I treasure.  One of my brother's made a family album when he was about 11 or so.  It has become a real family keepsake.  The cover has come off, some photo's have been removed.  But we all still love to pour over the pages and retell stories when we see it.

This project has taken on a bigger meaning to me than simply portraits.  This project tells a real story now. Our story. My story.  In thirty years time I'd love my children to be pouring over the pages of the printed versions of these portraits like my parents and siblings do ours.  And I want them to see us, their parents, how we are now.  In our thirties.  Making it day by day.

If a picture tells a thousand words, this post would equate to a novel.

But my pictures tell a better story than my words could.

I hope you and your families had a very happy and safe Christmas.  And my hopes for 2014 for you all is that same as the hopes I have for myself; A year of love, health and abundance.

Happy New Year friends xo
